TOWN HALL MEETING NOTES

Meeting
began around 2:30pm and ended at 4pm. Sparky facilitated (with a feather!).
Estimated
participants: 35-40, despite sporadic rainfall.
BACKGROUND
- Identified
LLC Board Members: Gadget, Taz, Captain Storm, Smokeblower (Sas has
removed himself from the Board); Board accepting nominations and
volunteers and will select 1-2 to bring total number of Board members to 6

Regional Representatives: Gadget, Captain Storm, Smokeblower
- Gadget
shared that LLC was formed in November 2006 or so (mainly) to be able to
secure event insurance and have liability moved from himself to the LLC
Board

and Fierce shared that the first Decompression party they attended was held
in Valley Center in 2003 with about 100 participants; about 300 were on
the SDBM yahoo discussion list then (over 1000 now).

DECOMPRESSION
- Reviewed
fall 2007 Budget (see separate document); the LLC Board’s goal is to have
enough balance to cover insurance deductible of $8000-9000
- Discussed
2007 ticket prices and ticket distribution policies
- Consensus was to set advance ticket price at $35 thru 10/15; then $45 tickets thru 10/18, when all ticket sales close
- MOTION PASSED to not sell tickets at the gate (online
sales only)
- MOTION DECLINED to sell tickets at offsite venue before or
during event
- MOTION PASSED to provide a flyer for those turned away at
Greeter Station to inform people about Burning Man and the regional event
and website
- Before
discussion to change event name could begin…
- MOTION PASSED to delay discussion regarding changing the name of
Fuego de los Muertos (So Cal’s Decompression to be held October 19-21)
until the next Town Hall Meeting
- Discussed
policy regarding allowing persons under 21 to attend Decompression
(current policy was to require a guardian for anyone under 21 to attend).
This was changed to new policy based on…
- MOTION PASSED (subject to property owner Hisham’s agreement) to
have 3 levels of entry below identified by different color wristbands; if
18 or over, Driver’s License or picture ID to be shown at Greeters
Station (no Passports)
- UNDER 18 allowed with a Guardian (to be identified on child’s
wristband)
- 18-21 allowed all access; color wristband will identify (to
reinforce no one under 21 being served an alcohol beverage)
- OVER 21 allowed all access; color wristband will identify as OK
to serve alcohol
- Discussed
preferences for music levels and night and establishing a quiet area;
Brutus described current plans to design Center Camp Sound Stage so that
lowering bass at 2am would not hamper dancers’ desires to dance until sunrise
- MOTION PASSED to trust Brutus and Sound Stage team
- So-Cal
Decom is held the 3rd weekend in October. This date is based on
San Francisco’s Decom being held on Columbus Day weekend and Los Angeles ’ Decom being on the following weekend; So-Cal Decom follows these two
- MOTION PASSED to set the dates of So-Cal Decompression to be the
3rd weekend in October each year (October 19-21, 2007; October
17-19, 2008)
BURNERS
WITHOUT BORDERS (BWB)
- Gadget
asked if there was interest in pursuing something along the lines of BWB
and a few ideas were discussed (e.g. helping wildfire victims,
contributing to Borrego Springs as the nearest town to our event);
Smokeblower shared that the video Burners on the Bayou (re BWB) would be shown
that evening at P’Uhoana ??
- MOTION PASSED for _Greg to set up meeting to discuss this matter
further
OTHER
BUSINESS
- Smokeblower
asked if there was interest in the community pursuing other interests
(e.g. a warehouse in San Diego for building projects); Taz stressed that a
project of this type would not be set up by the LLC Board
